シマフクロウオブザバトリーは、羅臼の民宿「鷲の宿」のシマフクロウ観察施設です。　自然の渓流の中に魚の給餌場とシマフクロウが好む照度の照明施設を設置し、野生のシマフクロウを高い確率で観察撮影できる機会を提供しています。　民宿「鷲の宿」に宿泊していなくても観察施設の利用が可能です。　シマフクロウは、いくつかある狩場の１つとしてこの給餌場を利用しますので、季節や繁殖状況によって観察頻度が大きく変化します。　ヒナを育てている５－１１月が一番良い時期で、夕方から観察できる可能性が高くなります。　２－３月が最も観察機会が少なくなり、明け方が中心になります。　私どもは、シマフクロウの行動特性を考慮しながら、この照明施設を設計製作し、現在は定期的なメインテナンス作業を担当しております。　観察施設、撮影方法などの詳細は、シマフクロウオブザバトリーのホームページをご覧ください。

　The Fish-Owl Observtory is a observing facility toobserve a wild pair of Blakiston's Fish-Owl. The facility set-up a feeding pond in a creek and special lighting system to provide good photo opportunities. Fish-Owls are using this set-up as one of their fishing spot. The chance of observation changes very much depend on their breeding activity. May-Nov. would be very nice, when they have chicks. Visitors would be able to see owls from early evening. Feb.-Mar. is very slow season. The chance of seeing one would be only around early morning. We have designed and made this lighting sysytem and are maintating regularly.
